Even if I did have qualms with witch I still dont see how this is a knock off or a theft of her species, and there isn't even any world built around them yet.
How could someone say it's a knock off when we don't even have any information about their abilities or culture. That's like saying a square is a knock off of a rectangle because it has four sides, four 90° angles that add to 360°, and the length of it's opposite sides are equal. That you own a colour pallette on a character, you can't because colours are created by the brain therefore everyone would be breaking that copyright.
Trademark is the Coca-Cola logo or McDonald's Big Mac, it's a specific thing and as WarriorCake said it's not exact but it's kinda similar, the thing is, there's no culture or species info to say this is a knock off.
IF it was a knock off, then they would be dog/cat x-fae species, created by the head god of their kind, of whom supplied x for a village in x-place and that the species protects, purifies, and supplies x. They would also have lesser gods, mythos based types, and the common ones would have become pets in some homes. Then you add on the traits and you have a knock off. Just because some traits are similar its a knock off, if thats true then Sushi's are a knock off of Pomeranians and Shibas and other real life creatures, that their closed eyes are a racial portrayal of the people some asian countries, and that they are stealing from several mythologies, religions, and cultures, do you see what I'm getting at?
You can't simply say something is a knock off for looking like something else.
